I foremost saw the swastika sign as a shaver watching “The Sound of Music”, and always attached the emblem to war and death by Germans, until I was 15 historic period old when I had someone asked me about the origin of the type and I answered “Germany”. I did a little research on it and found out that the original meaning of the sign had energy to do with death or war.
The Swastika is the oldest known sign dating as far back as over 3,000 years. It even predates the ancient Egyptian symbol, the Ankh. It has been a sacred symbol of Hindus since ages. The word – Swastika comes from the Sanskrit Svastika – “Su” – meaning “good”, “asti” – meaning “to be”, and “ka” – as a suffix. This symbol holds a lot of sizeableness in India. It denotes affluence, happiness, comfort, safety, and good luck. It is considered to be a charm for carry good fortune and prosperity. However, it lost its true meaning in the twentieth century.
In the 1800s, the Germans began using the Swastika to represent a long Germanic/Aryan history. In the 1900s, Adolf Hitler adopted the Swastika for the Nazi flag. It represented “a symbol of fight back.” (Mein Kampf, pg. 495).
He describe the flag: “In red we see the social intellect of the movement, in white the nationalistic supposition, in the Swastika, the mission of the struggle for the victory of the Aryan man, and, by the same token, the victory of the idea of creative work, which as such always has been and always condense out be anti-Semitic.” (Mein Kampf, pg. 496-497).
If I entered a temple today, and saw the symbol of the Swastika, I would not jump to conclusions about it’s meaning, especially since I know the true origin. If the Swastika is adorning a seawall in a temple, in my opinion, it must mean something good.
