At any age, a pip-squeak wants to please their p bents and follow in their footsteps. As the child finds older, they are left with the reality that they, too, have to grow and accept who they are. In the two literary pieces- Updikes A&P and Kaplans Doe Season, the stories focus on the acknowledgment of becoming, understanding, and accepting the fact of leaving childhood and entering adulthood.
In Kaplans Doe Season, the protagonist finds herself coming to the realization of who she is and learning to be comfortable in her own skin. The bosh describes a nine-year-old girl named Andy who takes a delineateing trip with her pay back, Charlie smooch and Mac. Being the only girl and the youngest, Andy is teased often by Charlie and Mac. They do not believe she can really hunt and will be bad luck as they think on their hunting trip. As the first sidereal day comes to an end, the leading blows through the air sending a sound that reminds Andy of a time at the ocean. The sound sends her into a flashback of the time she and her family took a vacation to the Jersey Shore. During the vacation Andy pay offs a quite bunglesome moment when her mystifys top slips off into the ocean. Her mother is so carefree and so comfortable with her body that she does not worry about the top at all.
Andy feels humiliation from the experience and associates the sound of the sea as a headache, much resembling her dread of becoming a girlie girl. As the next day approaches Andy goes to fetch firewood and pips a deer. She quickly goes back to battalion and tells the men hoping they believe her. When they go and find the deer, Andys father lets her have the injection since she has been the one to spot it. With the other two furious that a girl has the shot and the other members of the group thinking she will probably throw it, Andy takes the gun and shoots the deer.
