Love and death is the main idea of this metrical composition. It shows us the aliveness of life and gives us a better sense of equitable how much the poet feels he has lost. We get the impression that the past is flicker and the present or future is all dark. Throughout this poem the dark images is seen to smother the light. The images found in this poem that creates the images of twinkle and darkness is traffic cops, clocks, stars.

The poet used a clock to stress his physical feelings towards the loss of his beloved and the death of the deceased. The loud verbalisers love is all consuming, he can non think about release forward without his beloved because it is too much torturous. This can be seen in: Stop all the clocks (Auden l1). The speaker valued the ground to stop what they were busy with and concentrate on what he was going through. If the clock will stop working it core the world will stop progressing. This act is impossible to do and one that reiterates the speakers utter distress of loss. on with the clock the speaker commands all kinds of action such as the ringing of a telephone to halt and to silence the dog, pianos and the drums (Auden l1-3) so that everybody abroad should join him in his mourning. The speaker used these metaphors to expound the suffering he felt.



The speaker cauterise himself off from the world because his grief is too much. This can be seen in: cut off the telephone (Auden l1). This is to exemplify that the speaker do not wants to be disturb with incoming calls and people, silence is what he genuinely needs. The speaker uses a metaphor that is associated with a funeral. This can be seen in: Bring out the set, let the mourners come (Auden l4). This coffin is symbolic to the death of the deceased, death is symbolic to the loss of the speaker and loss leads to the mourning of the speaker for the deceased that is not in that location anymore.
